CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The A&S Scrap Metal Metros scored three times in the third period to salt away a 7-3 win over the Eastern Maniacs in Island Junior Hockey League action Wednesday in Charlottetown.
Jordan Birt (1-2), Taylor Runighan and Connor Gray did the honours in the third for the league-leading Metros (7-3-1). Gray also tallied a second-period marker and an assist, while Runighan started the Metros scoring with a first-period goal.
Tanner Lund and Jack Connell each had single goals for the Metros. Nick Currie (3), Cale Pierce (3) and Zach Ladner (2) each chipped in multi-assist games.
The Metros outshot Eastern 47-31, but went 0-for-2 on the power play. The Maniacs were 1-for-3 with the extra man.
Johnathan Arsenault (2) and Eddie Jenkins netted the Maniacs scores. Spencer Compton added two assists.
The game was tied 1-1 after the first period while the Metros led 4-2 at the second intermission.
Alex Kelly earned the win over Noah Laybolt.
