Men's hockey Panthers lose close one at Dalhousie

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Andrew Rieder scored on the power play and short-handed Friday as the Dalhousie Tigers defeated the UPEI Panthers 3-1 in Halifax despite being outshot 37-13.

Colton Heffley also scored a power-play goal for the home side while Fabian Walsh added two assists in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action.
Gabe Guertler scored the Panthers goal with a power-play marker in the final minute of the game. Austin Levi and Darcy Ashley had the assists. The goal came 30 seconds afer Rieder’s short-handed goal.
Corbin Boes stopped 36 shots for the win while Matt Mahalak made 10 saves in the loss.
Dalhousie held period leads of 1-0 and 2-0.
Dalhousie improved to 5-4-3 while UPEI is 5-4-2. The Panthers are at St. FX tonight to play the X-Men (8-4-0).
