Stephen Johnston scored twice to lead the Saint Mary’s Huskies to a 4-1 victory Friday over the UPEI Panthers in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) men’s hockey action.

Bradley Greene and Stephen MacAullay also scored in the win. Jamie Doornbosch, Steven Shipley, Matt Tipoff, Francis Menard and Mitchell Maynard had assists.

Tyler Brown from Travis McIsaac and Chris Desousa accounted for the host Panthers lone goal.

Anthony Peters stopped 30 shots for the win while Connor Wilkinson stopped 11 of 14 shots through two periods of playing before being replaced by new addition Matt Mahalak to start the third. Mahalak, who played 51 games last season for the Kingston Frontenacs, stopped all nine shots he faced.

The game was scoreless after the first period while the Huskies led 3-1 going to the third.

Saint Mary’s improved to 5-1-1 while UPEI falls to 3-3-1.

The Panthers host the Acadia Axemen tonight at 7 p.m.
