BATHURST, N.B. – Defenceman Cole Larkin of Mermaid was involved in a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) trade announced Friday.
The Halifax Mooseheads, who are hosting the 2019 Memorial Cup, dealt the QMJHL rights of Larkin and forward Yannic Bastarache, along with a 2019 second-round pick, to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in exchange for overage forward Samuel Asselin.
The 16-year-old Larkin, a member of the Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Pride of the New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League, appeared in five pre-season games with the Mooseheads. He had one goal and a plus-1 rating, and was one of the Mooseheads’ final cuts at training camp.
Larkin is listed at six-foot-two and 174 pounds.
The six-foot-one and 167-pound Bastarache was also a final cut by the Mooseheads. He is currently playing with the Moncton Flyers’ major midget team.
Asselin contributed 11 points in 20 post-season games in helping the Titan win the President Cup and Memorial Cup last season.
