The host Torchmen and Kinkora Blazers did not disappoint the good-sized crowd at Community Gardens. When all was said and done, the Torchmen pulled out a 2-1 shootout victory.
“I do remember the Blazers winning the Island championship in ’76 and I know the Torchmen won a couple of years later, so they were both very dominant in the late ‘70s,” said KISH principal Donald Mulligan in explaining the history between the two close schools. “It’s always been a big rivalry over the years.
“The two high schools have always played Winter Carnival games through the years, and have packed the rinks.”

Rhys Caseley and Kyle MacGuigan scored on the Torchmen’s their first two shots of the shootout, and Kinkora’s shooters could not solve KISH goaltender Peyton Lauwerijssen.
Brandon McLeod, who was set up by Tyson Gillis, tied the game for the Blazers with 1:26 remaining in regulation time after Matt Rogerson’s unassisted goal opened the scoring in the first period.

Girls
In the girls’ final, Emma Stewart had a goal and an assist to lead Montague past Westisle 4-0.
Kelly Clements, Jenna White and Maddy Murphy also scored for Montague, which led 2-0 after the first and second periods.
