CHICAGO – Suffolk native Ross Johnston recorded his first NHL point Saturday night.
The former Charlottetown Islanders and Summerside Western Capitals forward picked up an assist on Brock Nelson’s goal 1:52 into the third period of a 7-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.
The six-foot-five, 235-ppound left-winger also fought Ryan Hartman midway through the final period. The 23-year-old two shots, two hits and 15 penalty minutes to go with the assist in 5:49 of ice time. He played his first NHL game during the 2015-16 season with the Islanders.
In 37 games this season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Johnston has three goals, eight assists and 113 penalty minutes.
