CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Charlottetown Islanders have made a couple of deals that will see them acquire forwards Derek Gentile and Cameron Askew for forwards Matthew Grouchy and Gregor MacLeod.

The deals have been circulating on social media sites, but because the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League office was closed on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day teams can’t confirm the swaps.

But sometimes they don't have to.

“Thank you to everyone in the @IslandersHKY organization for the memories and all the lifetime friends I’ve made,” MacLeod said Monday around 5:30 p.m. on Twitter. “That being said I’m very excited to be a part of @quebec_remparts can’t wait to get things started.”

Grouchy and MacLeod are going to Quebec for Gentile and a third-round pick. The pick is then being sent to Shawinigan for Askew.

Grouchy has 11 goals and 13 assists in 33 games while MacLeod has eight goals and nine assists in 24 games. Gentile, a five-foot-eight, 178-pound Sydney, N.S., native, had 14 goals and 19 assists in 37 games this season, his third with the Remparts.

MacLeod is 19 while Grouchy and Gentile are both 18.

Askew, the former Moncton Wildcats forward has 13 goals and 11 assists for 24 points in 32 games this season.

The six-foot-three, 212-pound right-winger, who is originally from Boston, was initially drafted by Drummondville 11th overall in the 2013 draft. He is 20 years old.
