The Hurricanes, the defending Eastern Canadian Women’s Hockey League champs, have had a strong start to their season. They defeated UNB two weeks ago in Fredericton, N.B., 2-1 and 4-0, and lead the standings at 2-0. Acadia (1-1) and UNB (1-3) are two points back.
Holland College’s Hailey Matthews and Alyssa Ferguson each have two goals and an assist to lead the league with three points. Shelby Power, Katie-Lynn Cummiskey and Emma Gallant each have two points and are tied for second.
Goalies Kara Mason and Mackenzie Koughan split the starts. Mason plays today, while Koughan starts Sunday.
Gisele Rudderham and Casey Sappier lead UNB with two points each while Kate Northrup and Haley Dickinson have each played two games apiece in goal.
Hurricanes open home portion of schedule this weekend
CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Holland College Hurricanes women’s hockey team takes to home ice this weekend in Charlottetown for a two-set matchup versus the UNB Red Blazers.
