The hometown boy helped the Charlottetown Islanders kick off the 2016 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season in style.

Charlottetown’s Kameron Kielly, one of three overages on the Islanders, had a four-point night as the Islanders thumped the Saint John Sea Dogs 6-2 Friday in front of 3,154 fans at Eastlink Centre.

Kielly scored his first goal of the season into an empty net at 18:36 of the third period and assisted on three other goals. He was one of four Islanders who had multi-point nights in the home opener.

Mitchell Balmas, who scored two goals in eight games against the Sea Dogs last season, managed two goals in this game alone.

Jake Coughler, another one of the Islanders’ overagers, also had himself a two-goal night while Will Thompson picked up a pair of assists.

Chris Chaddock, of Saint John, N.B., picked up the other Islanders goal 19 seconds into the second period. Pascal Aquin and Kielly had the assists on that goal.

Matthew Highmore and Samuel Leblanc had the Saint John goals.

Saint John outshot Charlottetown 44-25.

Blade Mann-Dixon manned the goal for the Islanders and picked up second star honours for his play. Alex Bishop took the loss in goal for the Sea Dogs.

It was also the Islanders’ fourth straight home-opening win since the team was rebranded the Charlottetown Islanders.

The Islanders will try and improve to 2-0 on the season when they visit the rival Moncton Wildcats on Sunday.
