Goguen named first star as Ramblers defeat Capitals

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – Jordan King and Brock McEwen scored second period goals Tuesday to lead the visiting Amherst Ramblers to a 2-1 win over the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals.

Cole Waugh, Trayden Woods, Matt Sartoris and Will Lafford had assists for the Ramblers in the Maritime Hockey League pre-season contest at Eastlink Arena.

Kallum Muirhead scored a power-play goal with 5:16 left in the third period for the Caps. Sebastien Cormier and T.J. Shea had the assists.

Joel Goguen stopped all 18 shots he faced for the win while playing half of the game for the Ramblers. Kirklin Allen made 15 stops on 16 shots in relief.

Cody Smith made 29 saves on 31 shots for the home side.

Goguen was named the first star of the game followed by Smith and McEwen.

Amherst improved to 4-0-0-0 in pre-season play while Summerside is 1-2-1-0. The teams play again Saturday in Amherst at 7:30 p.m.

The Caps begin the regular season Saturday, Sept. 16, at Woodstock and don't play at home until Sept. 30 when Woodstock comes to town.
