CHARLOTTETOWN – The Sherwood-Parkdale A&S Scrap Metal Metros struck early and often.
The Metros scored four times before the nine-minute mark of the opening frame, built period leads of 6-1 and 9-3 and defeated the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers 12-5 on Wednesday night.
The Metros, led by Nick Currie’s four goals and two assists, hosted the Island Junior Hockey League contest at the Cody Banks Arena.
Jordan Birt (2-2), Cale Pierce (2-1), Tanner Lund (1-3), Cody MacPhee (1-2), Taylor Runighan (1-2) and Jack Connell also scored for the league-leading Metros, who improved to 8-4-1 (won-lost-overtime losses). Zach Ladner added two assists while single helpers went to Dylan MacDonald and Pat McGuigan.
Nathan Sanderson (2), Campbell Gallant (1-1), Logan Vandervelden and Drew Grady countered for the Vipers (4-4-2), who have lost five games in a row after a 4-1 start.
Winning goaltender was Alex Kelly stopped 41 of 46 shots. For the Vipers, Cameron Visser allowed six goals on 19 shots in 32 minutes, and Caelan Ferguson was beaten six times on 22 shots.
