“If you combine passion and work, you’ll reach your highest level, whatever that is,” said the Kildare Capes summer resident. “It may be the Western Capitals, it may be the UPEI Panthers. It may be a minor pro team, or it may be the National Hockey League.
“If players maintain a passion for the game, they will have no regrets, regardless of where they end up in the sport.”

Cameron, however, cautions that players need to be realistic, pointing out that less than two per cent of the people who start minor hockey will make a living from the sport. He warns coaches and parents that kids are dropping out of the sport because the pressure to win and to excel has taken the fun away.
He suggests coaches have a responsibility for instilling passion in the sport by making the game fun.
“If you cut back on the development and increase the passion, you’re as good a coach as anybody,” he advises.
