Ava Boutilier has been invited to Hockey Canada’s national women’s under-18 strength and conditioning camp in Hamilton from May 4 to 8.

The 16-year-old Charlottetown native will be one of eight goalies and 50 players at the camp. She attended last year’s event, but did not make the roster.

Players selected for the camp are in consideration for the Canadian team that will compete in a three-game series against the United States this summer in Calgary, as well as at the 2017 IIHF under-18 world championship.

“This camp represents the first opportunity for us to evaluate and connect with players in our development and under-18 team programs as they prepare for the 2016-17 season,” said Melody Davidson, Hockey Canada’s general manager of national women’s team programs. “This four-day camp in Hamilton serves as an important building block towards upcoming championships, and also lays out the expectations for these players on and off the ice as they aim to represent Team Canada.”

Boutilier played for the Charlottetown Brighton Construction Abbies this season in the Prince Edward Island Midget AAA Hockey League. She was 3-2 with a 2.61 goals-against average in five playoffs games and 7-5-2 with a 2.85 goals-against average in 14 regular season games.

She verbally committed in December to the University of New Hampshire (UNH) for the 2017-18 season.
