Birt’s late-game heroics lift Crunch past Aces

SLEMON PARK – James Birt provided the late-game heroics for the Summerside Cover All Construction Crunch on Friday night.

Birt scored his second goal of the game with 28 seconds remaining in the third period to break a 4-4 tie, and lift the Crunch to a 5-4 win over the Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces. The Plex was the site of the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League contest.
Riley Lavander (2) and Tanner Jamieson (1-1) each had two points for the Crunch, who improved to 2-16-0 (won-lost-overtime losses). Brandon Arsenault (2), Parker LeClair and Parker Harvey chipped in with assists.

Hat trick
Will Tuplin continued his recent hot streak with a three-goal performance to lead the Aces (9-9-0). Curklan Fraser scored the other goal for Tignish, which hosts the North River Flames (9-7-1) at the Tignish Credit Union Arena on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

Tyson Carragher, Colton Gallant, Jake Getson and Keaton Horne added helpers.
The Crunch led 3-2 after the opening period, but the Aces took a 4-3 cushion into the final frame.
Winning goaltender Andrew Gallant stopped 42 of 46 shots. Avery Arsenault gave up five goals on 23 shots for the Aces.
