Barter joins Dalhousie Tigers

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Former Charlottetown Islanders defenceman Jake Barter has committed to the Dalhousie Tigers for next season.

The six-foot-two blue-liner had three goals and seven assists in 33 games during the 2016-17 season before being traded along with Mitchell Balmas and draft picks to Gatineau for Alex Dostie.

After three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, the Hammonds Plains, N.S., native completed his junior career with the Amherst Ramblers.

“Coming home to be a student at such an amazing school with a focus on athletics and academics leaves me with huge comfort and excitement for the future,” said Barter, who is enrolled in the management program

Also joining the Tigers is Halifax native Connor Welsh, a defenceman who played junior A in British Columbia is a cousin of Islanders goalie Matthew Welsh.
