Senior Maroons outlast Aces

MacIsaac nets two key third-period goals

O’LEARY – There was an old-time senior hockey feel in O’Leary on Saturday night.

Over 800 people squeezed into the O’Leary Community Sports Centre to witness an entertaining matchup between the host Maroons and Tignish Aces in the West Prince Senior Hockey League. 
The local fans weren’t disappointed as the Maroons pulled away in the final 10 minutes of the game to take a 7-3 decision.
Tignish held a 2-1 advantage after the first period, but O’Leary was ahead 3-2 going into the final frame. Tignish was able to tie it up early in the third period, but two keys goals by Mike MacIsaac with five minutes to go sealed the win.
Kory Cooke (2-2), Morgan Cooke (1-1), Lukas Dyment and Nick Reilly also scored for the Maroons, who improved to 2-0 (won-lost). Assists went to Kyle Cooke (4), Matt Stewart (2), MacIsaac (2-1), Darryl Donahue, Devin DiJulio, Mike Adams and Scott Bernard.
Slade Handrahan (1-1), Jordan Knox and Ghislain Bernard replied for the Aces (0-2). Tanner Gallant (2), Traven Gaudet and Riley Doyle chipped in with helpers.
Denton Rogers took the goaltending win, and Troy Ellsworth covered the crease duties for the Aces.

Next action
League action resumes with the Maroons visiting the Wellington Flyers at the Evangeline Recreation Centre on Friday at 8 :45 p.m. The Aces will host the Alberton Regals on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
