Panthers snap losing streak

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Matt Mahalak made 21 saves as the UPEI Panthers shut out the Dalhousie Tigers 5-0 to start the second half of the Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey season Friday in Charlottetown.

J.C. Campagna had three assists while captain Brent Andrews and Beau McCue each had a goal and an assist to pace the offence.

Casey Babineau, Austin Levi and Cody Payne also scored while Derek Ryckman, Chad Labelle, Gabe Guertler and Marcus Power each added an assist.

Joe Gladnick made 34 saves in the loss.

The game was scoreless after 20 minutes while UPEI led 1-0 heading to the third. UPEI was 2-for-6 on the power play while killing all three of Dal’s chances with the extra attacker.

The Panthers, who snapped a seven-game losing streak, improved to 6-12-0 while Dalhousie falls to 6-13-0.

The Panthers host St. FX tonight at 7 p.m. at Eastink Centre as part of the Hockey Day in P.E.I. activities.
