It's a full dance card for hockey day in P.E.I. on Saturday at Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown.
First, the Charlottetown Islanders host the defending President's Cup champs the Rimouski Oceanic in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action at 3 p.m., then the UPEI Panthers host the Dalhousie Tigers in an Atlantic University Sport men's hockey nightcap, starting at 7 p.m.
Panthers defenceman Ryan MacKinnon said it's a fun time for hockey players and fans of the game. He took part in the first annual event last season as captain of the Islanders.
"Hockey day in P.E.I. is a special day for Islanders to enjoy hockey throughout the day by being able to see many of the leagues on P.E.I.," said MacKinnon, a Summerside native. "It's a great event and was very special to be a part of."
Sandwiched between the games is Kowboy Mike Hughes and the stars of Red Rock Wrestling shake the ring beginning at 5:45 p.m. in the Eastlink trade centre.
“This will be a great opportunity for us to showcase our talents to fans who may not have seen Red Rock Wrestling and an opportunity for wrestling fans to be exposed to live hockey as well," Hughes said.
The Charlottetown Abbies play a peewee AA game at 1 p.m. at the Eastlink Centre while there will also be a children's fun zone opening at 5 p.m.
The goal of the day is to raise money for minor hockey teams across the Island. Full day passes are $20 and are available at the Eastlink Centre box office, Phinley's, Naturally Fit, or by calling 902-629-6625. People with season tickets to either the Islanders or Panthers can purchase a ticket to the other game for $10 by taking their ticket to the box office.
