Hardie has breakout game in Islanders win

CHICOUTIMI, QUE. – Daniel Hardie scored his first three goals as a Charlottetown Islander Thursday in a 3-1 win over the Chicoutimi Sagueneens in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Sam King, Hunter Drew, Saku Vesterinen, Cam Askew and Derek Gentile had the assists. The Islanders acquired Hardie, a 19-year-old forward from Brampton, Ont., on the final day of the trade period in a deal with the Saint John Sea Dogs.

Vladislav Kotkov from Kevin Klima responded with Chicoutimi’s goal.

Matthew Welsh made 22 saves for the win while Zachary Bouthillier stopped 31 shots in the loss.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first and second periods. Hardie scored the winner with 9:04 left and iced it with an empty net goal with 20 seconds to play.

Charlottetown improved to 26-14-3-0 while Chicoutimi is 16-22-4-0. The Islanders continue their road trip tonight with an 8:30 p.m. Atlantic game in Baie-Comeau.
