CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The P.E.I. Golf Association (PEIGA) has released its tournament schedule for the upcoming season.

Highlights of the season include the Cooke Insurance Amateur Championship in July at Stanhope while the Canada Games in Winnipeg and the Atlantic Golf Championship take place in August. The Experience Hyundai Senior Men's and the Excel Accounting Senior Women's Tours get underway in May.

“The association is very excited about the upcoming golf season. It's especially exciting when the Canada Games are on the schedule,” said association executive director Ron MacNeill. “Provincial golf coach Sean Joyce has been working very hard with our juniors and we are optimistic about our team’s performance in Winnipeg.”

The tournament schedule includes many different formats for both competitive and recreational golfers. Several team events are on the calendar such as the Early Bird in May at Brudenell and the Iron Man at Clyde River in October.

Encouraging more girls to take up golf is a priority of the association. Last year it introduced girls’ camps, which turned out to be very popular and more camps are planned for this year.

To participate in any of the association's tournaments or programs golfers must have a Golf Canada/PEIGA gold membership card, which are available at local member courses. A number of courses include the cards with the purchase of a club membership.
