Gallant sparks Caps past Regals

SUMMERSIDE – Blake Gallant opened and closed the scoring for the Summerside Capitals on Wednesday night.
Gallant finished with two goals and an assist in leading the Capitals to a 6-3 victory over the visiting Western Regals in a P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League game at Credit Union Place.
Gallant gave the Caps a 1-0 lead at 6:04 of the first period, and then netted an unassisted empty-net goal with 55 seconds remaining in the third period.
Parker Cameron (1-1), Blake Vandervelden, Brandon Hastings and Parker Gallant also scored for the Capitals, who are 1-1-0 (won-lost-tied). Dylan Mugridge, Kalib Snow, Steven Smallwood and Matthew St. Thomas chipped in with single helpers.
Kalim DesRoches (1-1), Thomas Shea and James Doyle countered for the Regals (1-2-0). Aydan Kinch, Ethan Rix and Sterling MacKendrick collected assists.
The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period, and the Capitals took a 3-1 advantage into the final frame.
Devin Newberry earned the goaltending win, and Colin Gaudette tended goal for Western.
