HALIFAX - The wife of former Nova Scotia premier John Buchanan says she thought her husband was dying when he fainted this week at their Halifax home.
Mavis Buchanan says the former Conservative leader complained of feeling faint and cold before collapsing in their kitchen Tuesday.
John Buchanan is undergoing a procedure today to implant a pacemaker after being admitted to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre.
He says doctors diagnosed an irregular heartbeat.
His wife says the 76-year-old senator was fixing a leak in the basement of their home and said his hands were cold and he felt faint.
The next thing she knew, he fainted twice before paramedics arrived to take him to hospital for a series of tests.
Buchanan was Nova Scotia's premier from 1978 to 1990.
