SACKVILLE, N.B. – Eight Sackville football players have made the cut to Football New Brunswick’s Under 15 and Under 17 provincial teams this summer.

Selected to the U15 team were five members of last season’s Peewee championship team who will be moving up to the high school level in the fall – Thomas Allen, Oliver Longpre, Owen O’Neal, Mason Prescott and Colby Tower.

Jaret Phillips, now entering his second year as the U15 head coach, said he has a better idea of what to expect and believes he has the best 40 U15 players in the province.

“The selection process was extremely difficult,” he said. “Tryouts were very competitive as the talent level in all positions were deep this year. As a staff I believe collectively we’ve worked together and have selected the top U15 players in New Brunswick”

Selected to the U17 team were three members of the 2015 championship Titans high school team – Lucas Cormier, Jacob Estabrooks and Tristan McCluskey.

Third-year U17 head coach Vince Sturgeon was also pleased with the skill level at the tryouts.

“The selection process was extremely competitive and a credit to the efforts and determination of the over 90 athletes that were part of the tryout experience,” said Sturgeon. “The number and quality of athletes participating is another example of how football in New Brunswick continues to grow. While it was very difficult to pick only 40 players, the coaching staff is very excited about the opportunity to continue to work with our final roster to challenge them to keep improving as players.“

Both the U15 and U17 teams will look to build on their results last year where each team went 1-1. Both teams will play two games against the Nova Scotia U15 and U17 Teams as part of the Maritime Football Series. And the U17 team will play a third game when they host a Rimouski all-star team.

As previously reported, several Titans were also selected to the U18 provincial team last month and will travel to Winnipeg in July for the 2016 Football Canada Cup. This U18 team will also participate in two exhibition games against Team Nova Scotia this month.
