CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — It wasn’t easy, but the Charlottetown Expos swept an evening doubleheader against the Cardigan Clippers with 3-1 and 14-11 victories Wednesday in Charlottetown.

Expos pitcher Tyler Johnston picked up the win in both games, throwing a complete game five-hitter with five strikeouts in the opener then picked up the second victory in relief of starter Bret Cheverie.

In the first game, Kris McGuirk scored all three Expos runs, chipped in two hits and stole two bases. Jordan Duffy and Josh Kelly each had an RBI and a stolen base.

Sam Walsh (2-for-4, stolen base) and Ben Doucette (2-4, stolen base) led the Clippers offence. Charles MacLellan allowed three runs on six hits and struck out seven Expos batters in the loss.

In Game 2’s slugfest, the bats awoke as the teams combined for 25 runs.

Duffy went 4-for-4 at the plate with four runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base, while Kelly drove in three on three hits.

Cardigan’s Jack MacKenzie did his best with a 3-for-3, three-RBI day. He chipped in a swiped base, too. MacLellan had two hits and scored twice.

Quinn Hughes took the loss for the Clippers, allowing 10 runs over two and two-third innings.
