CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Island Sharks lost 5-2 to Recoil in the final of the Sharks’ recent Battle of the Bridge invitational women’s slo-pitch softball tournament in Charlottetown.

Recoil won the $1,000 first prize. The tourney featured three teams from Charlottetown, one from O’Leary and two From Nova Scotia. Heather Drake of the Sharks won the home run derby.

Samantha Younker, co-director of the tournament, said the tournament was a success.

“Even though we didn’t come out on top we achieved something really big in being able to showcase such talent on the Island. We want to grow this sport as much as possible and with help from other teams on and off the island we are reaching our goal to do that. Having four Island teams was amazing but having two come from Nova Scotia to play was huge for us. Next year we aim to be even bigger and better.”

The Sharks also recently finished third in the Slo-Pitch National Maritime championships in Halifax losing in extra innings in the semifinals. It had finished second in the preliminary round. Next the Sharks play in a co-ed tournament in early October in Moncton then finish the season at the October Fest tourney, Oct. 20-21, also in Moncton.
