CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – With the P.E.I. Junior Islanders playoff spot set, the New Brunswick Junior Baseball League squad looks to tighten things up for the post-season with a season-ending doubleheader today versus the Royals in Fredericton, N.B.

Game 1 starts at noon.

The Metro Mudcats (17-3) clinched first place last week with a 1-0 win over P.E.I., putting the Islanders (15-7) three games back and locking it into second place.

The teams could finish tied at 17-7, but Metro has the head-to-head edge after winning four-of-six meetings this season.

P.E.I.’s Darcy Affleck and Fredericton’s Daniel Bertrand are tied for the league-lead in home runs with three, while the Islanders Riley Gallant leads the league with 20 RBIs and has a team-best .538 batting average.

Third-, fourth- and fifth-place in the standings are up for grabs as just three games separate Fredericton, the Saint John Junior Alpines and the Chatham Ironmen.

On Sunday, the Alpines host the Ironmen for a double-dip beginning at 2 p.m.

The regular season is scheduled to end Thursday, July 27, when Metro hosts Chatham.
