The Baseball Canada national junior championship is being played in Dartmouth, N.S., Aug. 14-17, 2014.

DARTMOUTH, N.S. – Ontario Team One scored six late runs to defeat P.E.I. 6-0 in the opening game for both teams at the Baseball Canada national junior championship here Thursday morning.

P.E.I. starter Nathan McInnis of Summerside and Ontario’s Connor Mailloux pitched shutout ball through the first 4 1/2 innings, until Ontario counted three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and added three more in its half of the sixth on the Mainland Commons diamond.

Mailloux tossed a two-hitter while striking out nine and walking one in the complete-game effort. McInnis, who had one strikeout, gave up three runs (two earned), seven hits and two walks over five innings of work.

Tyson Blue of Winsloe worked the sixth inning, giving up three runs (one earned), three hits and one walk. He had no strikeouts.

Dylan McKenna of Cornwall and Clark Gallant of Summerside recorded P.E.I.’s hits.

The Island squad is back in action against Saskatchewan at Beazley Field on Thursday afternoon. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
