First pitch in Game 1 of the New Brunswick Senior Baseball League doubleheader is 4 p.m. at Memorial Field. The league pushed the start back two hours because of heavy rain Friday in Charlottetown.

The teams split the season opening games last weekend in Saint John. Charlottetown (1-2) lost the first contest 2-1 then won the nightcap 5-2. The Islanders closed out last weekend with a 7-0 loss to the Chatham Ironmen at Memorial.

Saint John (2-1) is coming off a 10-3 shellacking of the Moncton Fisher Cats on Thursday in Saint John.

Colin Arsenault (1-0, 0.00 ERA) and Brody McDonald (one save, 0.00 ERA) lead the Isles on the mound, while Jessie McIntyre and Brady Arsenault, with .444 and .375 batting averages, respectively, pace the Islanders offence.

Saint John’s Mark Phillips (.545) and Jack Shannon (.500) are the Alpine heavy hitters early in the season. Phillips played with the Islanders at last year’s nationals in Fredericton, N.B., when the Islanders finished fourth. Dan Taylor 1-0, 6.00) and Kevin DeSaulniers (1-1, 9.00) lead the Alpines pitching staff.

Injured Isles catcher Morgan MacLean is out at least another week.

Friday’s game between Chatham and the Fredericton Royals is Fredericton, N.B., was rained out.

Meanwhile, the P.E.I. Junior Islanders travel to Saint John on Saturday for a double-dip against the Junior Alpines. Game 1 start time is noon.

P.E.I. leads the New Brunswick Junior Baseball League at 3–1, while Saturday’s games are Saint John’s first of the season.

Conor McGregor leads the Juniors with a .571 batting average, good for a three-way tie for third with Jeremie Arseneau and Declan Buckle of the Metro Mudcats.

McGregor leads the league in RBIs (5) and is tied for second in doubles (2). P.E.I.’s Curtis McGregor and Jed Noonan are tied for third in RBIs with three.

The Islanders’ Porter Smith tops the pitching staff with a 2.00 earned run average, while Brandon Condon and Brett Hicken first and second in league strikeouts with nine and seven, respectively.

Logan Gallant and Smith are even in Ks with five each.
