Brewers score comeback win in Game 1 of KCBL semifinal

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Northside Gill Construction Brewers refused to quit.

Trailing 6-1 after an error-filled third inning, the Brewers scored three in the top of the fourth and added deuces in the fifth and sixth for an 8-7 come-from-behind victory over The Alley Stratford Athletics.

Northside takes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five Kings County Baseball League semifinal with Game 2 set for Sunday in Morell. The game is tentatively scheduled for 4 p.m.

Nick Ryan had a two-run double in the fourth-inning surge to kick-start the Brewers comeback. He finished the game 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI. Other top Brewers batters were Will Jadis (3-for-5) and Spencer Smith (2-for-2).  

Marshall Ellis and Corey Dougay had the A’s hits. Stratford scored six times in the bottom of the third inning as the Athletics sent 10 batters to plate.

Tyson Blue pitched a complete game two-hitter with eight strikeouts for the win. Jon Arsenault suffered the loss for Stratford in relief of Dan O'Shea.

Chevies 2 Bombers 0

The Morell Chevies downed the Peakes Tee Bombers 2-0 to take the opening game of their semifinal series Wednesday in Morell.

Troy Coffin threw 5 1/3 shutout innings for the win, before handing the ball to Logan Gallant, who struck out the final five outs for the save. The pair held the Bombers to just a pair of hits.

Rob Phelan took the loss.

The Chevies opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a Desi Doyle home run and added a second run in their half of the second inning when Taylor Larkin singled home Stephen O'Shea, who had reached on a double.

Doyle and O'Shea picked up four of the Chevies six hits on the night. Game 2 of the series is Sunday at 2 p.m. in Peakes.
