MORELL, P.E.I. – The Peakes Tee Bombers won an extra innings thriller in Morell against the Chevies Wednesday in Kings County Baseball League semifinal action.
The Bombers exploded for three runs in the eighth inning against Chevy reliever Logan Gallant to break a 2-2 tie to take Game 3 of the best-of-five series 5-2. The Bombers now lead the series 2-1.
The game remained scoreless behind some excellent defence until the fifth inning when the Bombers pushed across the game’s first run on a bases loaded hit batsman. The Chevies responded with a solo home run to tie the game in their half of the fifth off the bat of Avery Arsenault. The Bombers retook the lead in the seventh on a Rob Phalen RBI single, only to watch Morrell tie the game in its half on a two-out Darcy Affleck single, setting the stage for extra innings.
Phalen pitched the complete game win for the Bombers, allowing three hits in eight innings. Gallant was tagged with the loss in relief of starter Troy Coffin.
Mitch Power was 2-for-4 with a walk for the Bombers while Josh Coffin went 1-for-3 with a double and Dillon Doucette was 1-for-1 with four walks.
Scott Harper, Affleck and Arsenault provided the Morell offence. Game 4 is scheduled for Peakes Sunday with the time to be announced later this week.
