Island girls softball teams perfect on first day of Moncton tournament

The P.E.I. RE/MAX Ravens were a perfect 3-0 on the opening day of the Henry Kelly Memorial Tournament Saturday in Moncton.

The under-16 softball team defeated the Moncton Rebels 8-3, the Nigadoo Chaleur 11-1 and the Cole Harbour Comets 17-2.

They begin the playoffs Sunday at 9 a.m.


The Scotiabank Reds under-18 team also went 3-0 at the tournament.

They defeated Sussex 15-0, Mount Uniacke 7-0 and Tracadie 15-0. The Reds begin the playoffs Sunday at 9 a.m.

Alyssa Fleming struck out all the batters she faced for a perfect game against Sussex in the three-inning contest called on the mercy rule. Clara Jane Wood went 2-for-3 with five RBI, Laura Ready was 2-for-2 with two RBI and Katie Rayner was 3-for-3 with three RBI.

Jordon Havenga threw a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts against Mount Uniacke. Sarah Woodside had a home run and two RBI while Jada Yeo smacked a tripled and drove in three runs.

Yeo had a no-hitter against Tracadie and went 3-for-4 at the plate.
