WOLFVILLE, N.S. – The Acadia Axemen outscored the UPEI Panthers 27-16 in the third quarter en route to a 72-61 win Saturday in Atlantic University Sport men’s basketball action.

Acadia led 14-13 after the first quarter, but trailed 36-29 at the half in Wolfville, N.S. After a big third quarter Acadia went to the fourth leading 56-52.

Eric Nissen had a game-high 25 points and eight rebounds to pace the Axemen while former Holland College Hurricanes wing Trevon Grant scored 15 off the bench.

Amin Suleman led the Panthers with 16 points and five rebounds while Moshe Wadley scored 12, hauled in four boards and had four assists, a steal and a block. Milorad Sedlarevic chipped in 10 points while rookie Bryce Corless added nine off the bench.

The Axemen went 6-for-26 behind the arc, including a combined 2-for-16 for Nick De Palma and Ben Miller, who shoot better than 37.5 per cent on the season.

Acadia improved to 10-2 and gained four points in the standings to sit two points behind Dalhousie (10-2) in the AUS unbalanced schedule where some games are worth four points and others two.

The Panthers are 0-12.
