CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - The Red Rock volleyball club’s under-17 women’s squad reached the playoffs in the recent Sackville Sonics tournament in Halifax, N.S.

It was the first tournament for the Island newest volleyball club.

The team lost to the eventual tourney champ Moncton Fusion 18-and-under in the quarter-finals after going 3-1 in the round robin and finishing second in its pool.

In the round robin, Red Rock lost to the 18-and-under Bedford Blizzard 22-25 and 19-25, but defeated the Annapolis Blaze 2-0 (25-16, 25-15) thanks to strong serving, outlasted the Dartmouth Volleyball Club’s 18-and-under team 2-1 (23-25, 25-15, 17-15) with help from four straights kills by Morgan White in the final set and swept past the Fury 18-and-under 25-23 and 25-18.

The 10-team event was comprised of 16-and-under, 17-and-under and 18-and-under squads.

Red Rock fields two teams, a 15-and-under team coached by Laura Ready and Sarah Wills, and the group that played in Halifax led by Lynn Boudreau and Randy Goodman.  The Halifax team included Amanda MacBain, Anna Herget, Bryn MacDonald, Claire Davis, Emma MacKenzie, Faith Reeves, Mary Lowther, White and Sarah Inman.

Next up for the 17-and-unders is a training day with Kensington 18-and-under in March.
