A mad hatters track meet well describes the Bluefield Bobcats 74-65 win over the Morell Marlins in the Prince Edward Island School Athletic Association Domino's senior AA boys basketball gold medal game Monday in Charlottetown.

After sprouting to frantic 16-10 first-quarter edge, thanks to five three-pointers, the Bobcats were down 39-34 at the half and 51-50 at the end of three back-and-forth stanzas.

The key point came on Keegan McCarvill's three-point shot that gave Bluefield a 66-63 cushion with 2:31 left in the fourth. Then tourney MVP Dylan MacKinnon hit a two-pointer and added a free throw to cement a lead the Bobcats wouldn't surrender.

"It was crazy. I'm just glad we pulled it off. I guess hard work throughout the year pays off," said MacKinnon, who finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Explosive Morell sniper Ethan Craig had 19 points and 15 rebounds while Stephen Young went for 22 points and Shane Pendergast had 14 points and six boards.

Bluefield countered with 16 points each from Isaac Cheverie and McCarvill, and 15 points from Evan Larkin. Cheverie grabbed six rebounds.

MacKinnon credited coaches Paul Killorn and Matthew MacKenna for keeping the squad focused during the hairy contest.

"Coaches kept telling us to keep pushing it. Believe your teammates can hit the shots and they did," said MacKinnon, a Grade 12 guard from Cornwall.

Jesse Flemming scored 22 points to lead the Colonel Gray Colonels Two to a 66-53 victory over the Souris Spartans in the bronze medal game.

Leading 31-28, Flemming and Jonathan MacKenzie scored 10 consecutive points early in the third quarter and the Colonels coasted the rest of the way.

Mackenzie 11 points while Kallum Muirhead added eight points, 12 rebounds and five blocks.

Josh MacIntosh led the Spartans with 19 while Isaac Cahill had 10 and Ryan Acorn and Luke Chaisson each chipped in eight.
