O’LEARY – Islanders Jeff Ellsworth and Mitch Hardy are competing in an international men’s fastpitch tournament this weekend in St. Catharines, Ont.

Ellsworth, an outfielder, and Hardy, a pitcher, play for Hill United Chiefs, hosts of the eight-team Niagara Snappers tournament.

Ellsworth said six of the top eight teams in the world are entered in the tournament, with the Chiefs ranked No. 1. They play their first game Friday night against the New Zealand national team.

Besides the Chiefs, Hardy and Ellsworth also play for the O’Leary-based Summerside Chrysler Dodge Eagles and will join the Charlottetown Fawcetts for this year’s national championship in Charlottetown. The Eagles are entered in the North American Fastpitch Association’s world tournament in Quad City, Iowa, in August.

Ellsworth is also a member of the Canadian national team. Last weekend, he batted for Hill United in a game against Team Canada.
