North Winsloe wrestler Veronica Keefe was named Concordia University female athlete of the year at the Montreal-based school's recent athletic awards banquet.

Keefe, a fourth-year biology student, won a gold medal in the 72 kg weight class at the national championship last month at UNB and helped the Concordia women’s team finish fifth overall. During the course of the year, she represented Concordia at eight competitions, winning seven gold medals while compiling a 23-2 record.

Keefe was the only gold medallist for Quebec at the Francophonie Games last September in Nice, France and served as the flag-bearer at the closing ceremonies.

She also won a gold medal at the Commonwealth championships last December in South Africa.
