Independent MLA Olive Crane says she has a big announcement to make, but what it will be is anyone’s guess.

Crane recently posted on Facebook that she planned to make what she called an exciting announcement Wednesday during her statement time in the legislature.

She stoked speculation by later saying it was a “huge announcement,” refusing to give any hints about what she will say and telling people they will have to wait until Wednesday.

In the legislature Tuesday afternoon, Premier Robert Ghiz said there was quite a bit of buzz about Crane’s post.

He also seemed to hint that the Liberals’ colour might have something to do with it.

“She’s being tight lipped on it but there’s rumours floating around amongst a lot of Charlottetown retailers that there’s a shortage of red clothing,” Ghiz said.

“I don’t know if that may have to do with the announcement or perhaps red is a great colour for the Christmas season.”

For Crane’s part, she showed no reaction to the premier’s comments.

a lot of people still back Olive, like her, and don't like the way the old boy network booted her out with a phone call at 4:00 on a Friday, i think Olive could win in her riding, she's well liked and uses common sense in the House.

This just took a burden off the Tory party....great for her pension. Not for her constituents...they will still bein limbo no matter what colour she runs under

Since Olive was negotiating with Ghiz to cross the floor and join the liberals at the time Hal Perry did; if Ghiz would put her into cabinet, which he refused to do. One of the best moves that Ghiz ever did!!it will be no surprise tomorrow when she officially announces the move. Olive knows that she would have no chance of winning her riding as an independent, and the Tories do not want her back, so she has decided to make the jump! I wonder what her historically Conservative riding think of her now? I think that her career in politics is over!!!'

Mr.Ghiz won't accept Crane when she asked before but he accepted the TignishMLA. Now that he is leaving he will accept Crane. Remember Tex when he jumped ship. Whole party of ship jumpers.

The Liberals need another ALEX CAMPBELL and the Progressive Conservatives need another PAT BINNS. Alexander Bradshaw Campbell is the BEST premier Prince Edward Island has ever had.'re #2.

    • Maclean, not Binns

Pat Binns was definitely not the best Progressive Conservative premier we've had. That goes hands down to The Honourable John Angus MacLean, member of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada, an Officer of the Order of Canada, awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. A hero pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force whose bomber was shot down over Nazi-occupied Belgium and he survived the crash and he evaded capture and certain death. A Wing Commander in the RCAF, he returned to civilian life after the war. He had a Bachelor of Science from Mount Allison University, the very best Liberal Arts University in the Dominion of Canada, as well as a Master of Science from the University of British Columbia. He served in public office as a Member of Parliament from 1951-76 continuously, including in the federal cabinet as Minister of Fisheries from 1957-63 (the first Minister of DFO to have a Science degree, I believe). He was a citizen farmer with an interest in sustainable agriculture and land stewardship practices that he exercised on his meticulously maintained property in his beloved community of Lewes, Queens County (near Wood Islands). Mr. MacLean was elected to the provincial legislature in 1976 as leader of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition and was elected as Premier in 1979, which he held until 1981. During this very short term in office, Mr. MacLean exercised his voice for rural PEI and was the one responsible for implementing many of our current land controls which were necessary in the face of increased urban and suburban sprawl. Pat Binns, his protege from western Canada, on the other hand, removed many of these controls in a quasi attempt to appease the libertarian element in the PEI PC Party. Binns is no great premier, never was and never will be. Affable, yes. Competent, no. I equate him with Ghiz. MacLean on the other hand I would put on the same level as Alex Campbell. Imagine, we had the 2 best premiers in PEI history during a single 15 year period from 1966-81.

Pencil Binns down as the worst premier ever on this Island . The most complaints ever of human rights violations which successive courts told him to settle , but he ignored them and went right to the Supreme Court of Canada where they refused to hear the case and told him to right his wrongs . Ruined the lives of a lot of innocent people .

They can have her. She was impossible to work with in the Tory party.

Olive has more personal support than all the remaining members put together including the back room hacks...she cares for the people- they , like Harper and Duffy care about filling their pockets !!

Shouldn't that be worded (she was to honest for the Tory party to work with ) I think that would be more truthful .
