EDITOR:

I attended the launch Tuesday night for the expansion plans of Stratford Elementary School. I was interviewed by CBC, it was a great interview and I thought that my views would be correctly portrayed. Editing cuts might give some wrong impressions.

So, to clarify, because this is a passionate topic for myself, I am very pleased with the plans for our school. Yes, it is a short-term solution because our other school still needs extensive renovations but it is a great start. I think they chose the best of the plans they had to work with and have kept some green space and added a second gym and second music room.

The area of concern is that the ideal number of students for an elementary school is around 350, yet our new addition will give us a total of almost 700 children in one space. The administration is great at Stratford Elementary so I am hopeful they will do what’s needed to keep the children safe and well educated. They have assured us that during construction the area will be well fenced off and they are making changes to pick up and drop off zones. Anyway, we are not done fighting for our children and to have access to smaller class sizes and proper class composition. So, thank you for the wonderful addition but let’s deal with Glen Stewart Primary before it becomes too bad for repairs and let’s talk about our need for junior and senior high solutions.

Denise MacLeod Ling,

Stratford
