I listened with interest to a Jan. 25 CBC-televised news conference given by our prime minister from Davos. He opined, “Diversity is a source of strength…different perspectives, different views should be listened to…so the opportunity to bring people together with different perspectives…is a very good thing…”
The recent debate concerning the attestation requirement on the Canada Summer Jobs program application has once again shone the spotlight on the issue of children in the womb. According to the prime minister’s logic, rather than attempting to stifle or denigrate or dismiss those who call for legal recognition of the rights of the unborn, their viewpoint “should be listened to.”
A respectful conversation on such a pressing concern has a rightful place in a democratic society. It appears that discussion will continue to insist on being had.
