Re: More to sport than running, Oct.30, 2017. No doubt about it. There is more to sport than running. A lot more.

Skills such as ball control, passing, dribbling, shooting, hand-eye or foot-eye co-ordination are important components of many sports. They are developed over time - usually during pre-teen or teen-age years.

Nowadays, most professional athletes also do strength training as part the team's fitness program. But certainly not to the degree of bench-pressing 400-500 pounds.

As skills of various sports differ greatly, running or cardiovascular fitness may be the only component measurable.

According to research, the following shows distances a professional player runs per game: baseball 0.5 mile, football 1 mile, basketball 2.5 miles, tennis (5 sets) 3.5 to 5 miles, soccer 7 miles.
