The recent (and extremely disappointing) results of the 2017 student assessments may be one reason why Doug Currie quickly jumped from the MacLauchlan government ship. Some 49 per cent of Grade 3 French immersion students met reading expectations and 48 per cent of Grade 3 English students met writing expectations? And only 47 per cent of Grade 11 workplace math students achieved a passing grade?

Ouch! And the response from newly-appointed Education Minister Jordan Brown? Comparing one year to the next doesn’t compare “apples to apples.” No, Minster Brown it does not. It compares P.E.I. students to P.E.I. students.

Get to work.
