LETTER: Creating genuine equality for all

Published on September 9, 2017

I write to commend the op-ed column of Mr. John Joe Sark on the shameful treatment of the aboriginal peoples of the Americas.

Surely past practices and its continuance remains a blot on the history of both continents.
And I speak as a member of a people who were similarly treated by their British overlords, a history perpetrated by territorial segregation in the creation of the puppet state of Northern Ireland and by outright ethnic bias in the designation of North American police transport as ‘Paddy Wagons.’
I beg, however, that all of us put our discriminatory and racist language and attitudes – of whatever stripe - to rest in the future, treating one another with justice and charity, giving all citizens their rightful place in society by learning from the past while creating genuine equality for all.
