LETTER: Impact on oil works two ways

Published on September 7, 2017

The Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission (IRAC) issued a statement on Sept. 1, 2017 that the cost to Islanders for gasoline they use daily was increased.

The culprit apparently is Hurricane Harvey which hit Texas 10 days ago. In the past, IRAC has suggested that when the price of oil drops the savings cannot be passed along to the public for about 30 to 60 days until the oil in the pipeline has been exhausted.
Was there only a four-day supply in the pipeline? Four days after Harvey the Hurricane hit Texas the price of a barrel of crude oil decreased?
My question to P.E.I. Liberal MPs, MacAulay, Casey, Easter and Morrissey: When will your Liberal Trudeau government stop the delaying tactics and authorize the Canada East pipeline? Why do you support the Liberal mayor of Montreal and his campaign against this project which will give Canadians security of supply and delivery? Why do you support the importation of higher priced oil from the
unstable country of Venezuela whose people are rioting in the streets because of a left wing government dictatorship? Hurricanes also occur in Venezuela.
