EDITOR:

The mention of extending road space for cyclists is an excellent idea. And while the city is busy with that design, it is time to prohibit cars from passing on the right and using the cyclists' lane do so.

If I passed cars on the right in any other province or U.S. state, I'd be hauled over by the police for the infraction of driving unsafely. I know many P.E.I. drivers think that passing on the right and using the bicycle lane to do so is an "inherent" right for autos and trucks, and I have been informed of such.

But it dangerous to everyone since bicycle lanes are for bicycles, not autos or trucks or motorcycles. It is time to prohibit cars from passing on the right which is often in the bicycle lane. Effective immediately.

Safety first for all please, and as soon as possible without any delays. We have waited too long for no passing on the right rule to come into effect.

Charlottetown
