EDITOR:

The $ 42,000 new Christmas lights budget needs to be used in the downtown area. We have the infrastructure with Victoria Row, the 2018 sign and the oval turned into an ice skating area when weather permits. Instead of placing lights here and there, let’s make Downtown Charlottetown a destination for the five weeks before Christmas.

My wish is to have a four-day weekly market before Christmas with city funds spent for the retail venues and allowing food vendors to set up as well with their own facilities (opposite side to retail vendors) around the oval. The 2018 sign to have Christmas trees surrounding it for pictures through out the winter and not change the date sign until New Year’s Day so families visiting the Island for Christmas can have their picture taken. I am sure there must be a photographer who is willing to be there at dusk to take an instant photo with a pre-programed “Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island” to go on the picture.

Victoria Row is a gem and if closed to traffic for the five weeks before Christmas, keep the night seating with fire pits going and Christmas music. I am sure visitors will enjoy Victoria Row, stroll down beautiful Great George Street and end up at the Christmas Market. The parkades should be free parking from 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. daily during the five weeks before Christmas.

Let’s use our budget and make Downtown Charlottetown a destination for Christmas on P.E.I.

Glenda Frizzell,

Charlottetown
