EDITOR:
How many times must we hear about heart-breaking deaths due to head/brain injuries as a result of playing rough sports like soccer or rugby without protective head gear? To lose a child has to be the worst thing. The Island is still mourning the loss of a young student playing in Summerside.
Most of us can remember when it became mandatory for hockey players to wear protective helmets, and later it became mandatory for bicyclists. In my opinion, it is time to apply the same rule to soccer and rugby. Some soccer headgear has shown to reduce the risk of concussion by over 80 per cent.
These deaths are so regrettable and mostly preventable. Let us not lose another child due to this kind of head/brain injury.
