EDITOR:
Victoria Park is the jewel in the ring of natural beauty we Islanders enjoy, and it must be maintained in all its glory.
I remind various levels of government that Victoria Park was left, in trust, to the people or Prince Edward Island to be maintained by the City of Charlottetown, with the support of the provincial government of P.E.I.
There is no wish or mandate stated in the trust to:
- build floating docks;
- provide either a postal location or government parking;
- allow the ruins of the P.E.I. Hospital to remain on site once vacated;
- or allow the P.E.I. Department of Education to occupy what used to be the nurses’ quarters.
The continued litter of Victoria Park property must now immediately cease, and be removed, not added to, by floating docks, or the continued occupation of buildings which were built upon Victoria Park property for a specific time and purpose.
In the same vein, we Islanders have no need to continuously fund studies by so-called ‘recreational specialists’ to advise us on Victoria Park’s future development
The future of Victoria Park is well and truly defined in the trust and depends upon all Islanders to maintain the natural beauty of Victoria Park.
Therefore, we, the people of P.E.I., must now take a stance, to immediately cease this continued, and unwanted, stealing of the natural beauty of our Island jewel, Victoria Park.
