Geographically, Prince Edward Island gets smaller every year due to coastal erosion. Everywhere you look there’s a new high-rise being built. You begin to wonder if all these buildings are playing a role in trapping the heat and prolonging the heat warnings issued by Environment Canada.

Nova Scotia and New Brunswick got a break from the heat warnings, not P.E.I. The Island eventually did, but Kings and Prince counties first, before Queens county and it was short-lived.

Are we going to resemble Toronto where you could hang out the window to pass your neighbour the ketchup and have a need for cooling centres. I’m all for development but at what cost? We’re acting like a big city when really, we’re not. Especially when Prince Edward Island erodes faster than any other province.

Charlottetown
