I believe as Canadian citizens that the we as a society should not be permitted to have access to semiautomatic weapons under any circumstances.

In recent news we have heard all about one particular thing. Mass shootings in the United States - the most recent on Oct. 10 in Las Vegas, Nev. There has been over 300 shootings in the United States in 2017 alone. Something needs to change. I believe if we change universal gun laws and regulations it should benefit people more. This could potentially decrease the casualties and number of shootings associated with high powered semi-automatic weapons.

By tightening up security at airports, borders of all countries and watching x-ray machines more carefully when packages are being scanned would also decrease the likelihood of accessing new weapons.

The government should also make it very hard for a man or women to gain access to a weapon of high caliber. A man or woman with a gun license should not be able to walk into a gun store and buy whatever they please. New stipulations should be put in place before purchase of any type of weapon.

With all these events on the rise we should come together and create a movement to put an end to these events for good.

UPEI student
