The Prince Edward Island government recently announced its budget for the 2018-2019, and as a student, I could not be more thrilled. Government listened to what we had to say, they understand how hard it is to be a post-secondary student in today’s society: high expenses and high stress. The new Island Advantage Bursary will give us students at either UPEI or Holland College, a whopping $3,600 more over a four-year program. This is a next level investment in our province’s future and allows us to get on the right track before graduating.

Additionally, the Debt Reduction Grant is increasing by $3,500 per year, this means have the potential to see up to $14,000 of their student loans forgiven - talk about being in sync with university students. I may only be one person, but I assure you that this budget will give tons of Island students more confidence in their studies, knowing there will be less of a burden down the road. Thank you to our government, who really hit the nail on the head this time around, giving us students a much-needed break.

Jacob Stewart,
UPEI Student
